Receiving Jobs

Receiving jobs keep track of the goods that are shipped and received from different establishments. Larger businesses tend to have more equipment and generally require more training for their employment openings. Keeping records of invoices, using handheld scanners, and checking shipments for any discrepancies in order quantity or damages are common responsibilities of jobs in receiving. Working Monday through Fridays, weekend and evening shifts are common with some employers.

There are no specific requirements or qualifications for receiving careers although the majority of workers have at least a high school diploma or previous experience with receiving jobs. Typically trained while on the job, receiving jobs with a larger establishment may incorporate more use of technical equipment as well as automation, increasing the amount of training while lowering the amount of physical labor that is normally associated. Advancement for professionals that have exhibited good skills while on the job to supervisory or management positions are also possible.

In 2006, there were 769,000 jobs with around 70 percent of those workers employed by manufacturing establishments. Job growth will continue to be effected by automation as smaller and larger firms attempt to minimize their labor costs by implementing automation systems. Employers will still need to have machine operators for these systems.  Many job opportunities will become available from the need to replace workers that transition to other careers or exit the work force entirely. A small percentage of job openings will be due to job growth. The best candidates for employment will have previous experience with a solid work history.
